Job Opening: Senior Vice PresidentMoody's Investors Service is one of the world’s most respected and widely used sources for credit
ratings, research and risk analysis.
Moody’s opened its Beijing Office in July 2001 and set up Beijing Moody’s Investors Service (Beijing)
Ltd. in 2003 to develop its business in China. In April 2006, Moody’s acquired 49% of China Cheng
Xin International Credit Rating Co. Ltd. to establish a platform for Moody’s to provide credit ratings,
research and analysis services for the domestic market in China. International credit ratings continue to
be provided by Moody’s.
The RoleThe Senior Vice President role will be based in Beijing, reporting to the Managing Director, Non Japan
Asia Financial Institutions Group (based in HK) and/or the regional head of FIG and CFG.
This role will be the senior person representing Moody’s financial institutions franchise in China.
The mandate for this person will be to develop a team that together will represent the most highly
respected financial institution team analyzing credit risk in the Chinese financial system.
For the right person this role has the ability to develop quickly into a leadership role for Moody’s activities in the corporate and financial institutions sector in China.
The individual and related team will be responsible for a portfolio of Chinese banks and other financial
institutions in China (Non-bank lenders, insurance companies) rated by Moody’s.
There will also be secondary involvement in the ratings of, as well as participation in rating committees and discussions,for financial institutions in other Asian countries.
The candidate will most likely cover the largest China banks themselves and provide leadership and development to the team in the Beijing office.
The primary role involves ongoing analysis of the credit profile of rated Chinese banks and
demonstrating in-depth knowledge of the Chinese financial system and related institutions and
regulatory frameworks.
It is expected the individual hired will have the capability to manage client relationships at a very senior level and be able to write comprehensive and thought provoking research
on individual banks and the Chinese financial system.
The role requires frequent interaction with investors, intermediaries and issuers, and managing assigned relationships.
An ability to confidently interact with outside parties is therefore a prerequisite for this role.
Experience in managing a small team and developing a business franchise in the financial sector would
be advantageous.
Responsibilities: Conduct credit research and writing credit reports, special comments and industry outlooks for
banks, insurance companies and non-bank finance companies.
Analyzing quantitative and qualitative data for financial institutions and the broader financial industry.
Interact with senior financial institution executives, investors, intermediaries and press/media.
Build and maintain high profile relationships with investors, issuers, regulators and other market
participants.
Present credits effectively and comprehensively in rating committees and other internal analytical
meetings.
Present in public forum Moody's credit opinions on relevant banking topics.
Work closely with senior Moody’s managers and mentor junior staff in the Beijing office.
Provide leadership, coaching and mentoring to a small team located in Beijing
Establish a high profile and respect for the Moody’s franchise in China
Candidate ProfilePerformance Competency: Domain Knowledge – Good understanding of the financial markets and business in China;
Experience in credit research on China’s financial industry; Strong quantitative aptitude and
demonstrated analytical ability; Understanding of complex transaction structures, with exposure to
documentation review. Strong knowledge of financial reports is a prerequisite.
Business Acumen – Strong sense of major industry trends and drivers, good understanding of
leading financial institutions’ challenges, needs and strategies.
Leading Teams – Leadership potential and experience in building and motivating teams. Skilled in
mentoring and coaching, “walk the talk” and lead by influence instead of “power”
Building Relationships and Using Influence - High degree of maturity and balanced personality
with ability to manage high level and often complex client relationships. Strong organizational
skills with sound judgment.
Personal Competency: Graduate in finance, banking, economics or related discipline with postgraduate qualifications an
advantage.
A minimum of 10 to 15 years of relevant analytical experience probably in another financial
institution or a regulator or a combination of both.
Articulate and succinct communication skills both verbally and in writing with extensive public
speaking experience ideal. Previous experience writing research in either an equity or credit market
context would be advantageous.
Fluency in both English and Chinese.
