* LAKE SHORE FLOODING...THE REMNANTS OF HURRICANE SANDY AREFORECAST TO MOVE ACROSS THE EASTERN GREAT LAKES FROM MONDAYNIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY. DUE TO THE LARGE SIZE OF THIS STORMSYSTEM...STRONG NORTHERLY WINDS OF 50 TO 60 MPH WILL OCCUR ONLAKE MICHIGAN FOR A PROLONGED PERIOD FROM LATE MONDAY THROUGHTUESDAY EVENING. AS A RESULT...WAVES ACROSS THE SOUTHERN END OFTHE LAKE ARE EXPECTED TO BUILD SIGNIFICANTLY...WITH WAVE HEIGHTSOF 18 TO 23 FT LIKELY BY TUESDAY ALONG THE COOK COUNTYSHORELINE.
* TIMING...WAVES ARE FORECAST TO QUICKLY BUILD BY LATETONIGHT...AND THESE LARGE WAVES WILL CONTINUE FOR A PROLONGEDPERIOD THROUGH WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON BEFORE CONDITIONS GRADUALLYIMPROVE.
* IMPACTS...THESE LARGE WAVES WILL BATTER THE BEACHES ANDSHORELINES LEADING TO COASTAL EROSION AND FLOODING...AND COULDRESULT IN SIMILAR IMPACTS TO THE STORM OF SEPTEMBER 2011. SOMEOF THE MORE VULNERABLE SPOTS ALONG THE LAKE SHORE...INCLUDINGTHE CHICAGO LAKE SHORE BIKE PATH AND PORTIONS OF SOUTH LAKESHORE DRIVE...AND ANY PIERS AND BREAKWALLS THAT EXTEND INTO THELAKE...COULD BE SIGNIFICANTLY IMPACTED FROM THESE LARGE WAVES.
