In addition to one of the largest corn mazes in Kane County, Abbey Farms has wood fires and a fun, non-haunted, evening flashlight corn maze on Saturday evenings. New this fall is a second simple corn maze, new jumpy huts and a petting zoo for the first three weekends in October. Back again are the Tee-Pee Town Adventure Course, Wildwood picnic grove, the Tractor Experience, hayrides, the family game zone and the pedal race track. All farm activities are included in the price. New at the Tumbleweed Grill and Snack Stand are homemade apple cider donuts and funnel cakes and unlimited apple toppings bar. Admission: $9 adults; $3 seniors; under 2 free. Cash or check only.

Other activities include a farm market, jumping pillow, pony rides, petting zoo, cow train, pumpkin blaster, a hay mountain, children's rides, giant tube slide, mini zip line and more. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and Columbus Day. Admission: $7-$18. Credit cards accepted. No pets.
3. Apple Holler

This family operated business also has many barnyard animals and a full garden center. Catered food is available and their pig roasts are the most popular.

www.pumpkinfarm.comGeneral admission to Bengston's annual Pumpkin Fest includes a new mega fun slide, a large playground, a vortex straw tunnel, pig races ten times daily, friendly fun and spooky haunted barns, a feeding and petting zoo and a corn maze with gravel paths that are stroller and wagon-friendly. Not to be missed are the two pumpkin launchers; the smaller catapult will toss a pumpkin more than a hundred feet in the air. Co-owner Dave Bengston said that he doesn't have quite enough real estate to test the full potential of the pneumatic cannon. "It'll launch a pumpkin a thousand feet or more," he said.

"We grow many different sizes and shapes of wacky pumpkins and gourds," said Cindy. "We also have a Country Bumpkin Express - a train ride that is pulled by a tractor that my husband drives, to pick your own pumpkins." In 2006, they grew an 800-pound pumpkin.

Go for a hayride, and don't forget your cell phone in case you get lost in the corn maze. Kids can learn about Indian teepees and baby chicks. "We have many teaching materials in our educational barn that explain how chicks grow and their life cycle," said Barb Didier, from Didier Farms.

Then take the kids to Animal Land to see the pumpkin eating dinosaur and all sorts of barnyard and exotic animals. Goebbert's general manager Sue Murdock said that the Giraffe Barn is not to be missed. "You'll be able to walk up a ramp and be eye-to-eye with the giraffes."
