SPRINGFIELD — Illinois officials will stock more than 60,000 rainbow trout in waterways as they prepare for the April 7 opening of trout fishing season.
Fishing may begin at 5 a.m. that day.
Department of Natural Resources Director Marc Miller says spring trout season is a popular family activity.
Anglers must have a valid fishing license and an inland trout stamp unless they are younger than 16, blind or disabled, or an active member of the military.
Annual fishing licenses are available and valid through March 31, 2013. Also available are 24-hour licenses.
Those who want to fish should check for regulations that apply to specific sites.
